Javier was born in Mexico and grew up in Salinas, California, where he played soccer, ran cross-country and track. He got interested in Biology and headed to UC Santa Cruz where he studied NHR-23, a C. elegans gene regulating spermatogenesis. In the Nelson Lab, Javier is studying tardive dyskinesia, but in his spare time, he loves to go to concerts and explore San Francisco on foot.
